The Philippine Blockchain Week commenced last Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Paranaque City, Philippines. Hundreds of participants, blockchain enthusiasts, industry leaders, and government officials gathered to see the launch of the first-ever blockchain week in the country. Donald Lim, DITO CME Chief Operating Officer and Philippine Blockchain Week lead convener opened the event so attendees got a feel of the future of blockchain technology as members of the Philippine Blockchain Council of the Philippines went on stage wearing clothes inspired by the movie, “The Matrix.”
Speaking to the participants, Lim discussed how they conceptualized PWB and encouraged participants to realize the future of bringing Web3 adoption to the country. He also emphasized how blockchain technology can push the development of digital technology in the Philippines. With the country’s large population, government support, and private businesses, the dream of enhancing digital transformation in the Philippines can be achieved.
Lim emphasized how the event can kick off future projects involving blockchain technology, and how different industries can gain, develop, and see the full potential of the Philippines through blockchain adoption.
In addition to the Blockchain Council, government leaders also welcomed blockchain adoption through several projects being planned for the country. John Ivan Uy from the Department of Information and Communications Technology or DICT said that their agency has initiated projects like the first-ever Global Blockchain Summit in Bataan last October 2022, which would set off more projects in the adoption of blockchain technology in the country. “Through this, we have high hopes of unraveling the potential of the Filipinos,” he said.
